As part of Ambition for Ageing, and in collaboration with a number of local partners, Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary Organisation (GMCVO) sought to increase the number of opportunities for older people to come together and eat communally.
Led by GMCVO, the FoodSync team explored the role food plays in scenarios and settings like these and worked with community leaders to build social capital and local food networks to help support older people in the region.
The team developed a toolkit to help reduce social isolation through community eating projects delivered through Greater Manchester’s Social Eating programme. Insights were gleaned to improve food democracy with an end-goal of building a more sustainable food system.
