Obesity is a complex problem, which requires action across individual and societal levels involving industry, national and local government, the voluntary community and social enterprise sector.

Commissioned by Stockport Council to develop a blueprint framework and set of recommendations for tackling obesity using food systems thinking. We worked closely with council colleagues to develop a conceptualised food and physical activity model focused into a set of 14 objectives. We looked at the key drivers for this system and how we could leverage change that would fundamentally affect the way our population lives. Wider determinants of health are in the main widely understood however; food is often the afterthought when in fact it can be the most powerful determinant if optimised effectively. Through a series of conversations with key local stakeholders and system gatekeepers we were able to develop a set of mechanisms, which would bring about this change. Primary, secondary and tertiary outcomes were mapped which ranged from health, economy, environment and societal gain.
